Abstract:
Cutaneous melanoma is the deadliest skin cancer and shows an increasing incidence. Survival rates of melanomas without metastases are high, but once metastases develop, mortality rates rise significantly. The Wnt/beta catenin signaling plays an important role in tumorigenesis and critically regulates melanoma progression. In this review, we describe the underlying mechanisms of Wnt signaling and outline how Wnt signaling controls cellular processes involved in the development, homeostasis, and progression of malignant melanoma. Level of Evidence: Not gradable.
