Abstract:: Increasing insights into the pathogenesis of giant cell arteritis (GCA) identified a large number of new treatment targets. Very recently clonal hematopoesis, immune ageing processes associated with inflammation and dysregulated immune checkpoints have been linked to the pathogenesis of GCA. Based on pathopyhsiological insights new treatment options such as Janus kinase inhibitors or IL-17A blocking antibodies are currently tested in GCA.
