- Abstract:
- Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability in adults. Despite medical advances that continue to reduce post-stroke mortality and physical dependency rates, a high proportion (40%) of patients still suffers from post-stroke cognitive impairment. Predicting cognitive outcome is important for early stroke management and setting realistic rehabilitation goals. Furthermore, decreasing the risk for recurrent strokes by efficient treatment of modifiable vascular risk factors is highly important. The goal of this dissertation was to assess the predictive value of brain MRI markers for post-stroke cognitive outcome and to evaluate the effect of a newly developed smartphone app for risk factor management.
