Abstract:
Due to the increased life expectancy of the population as a whole and the associated increased susceptibility to osteoarthritis, the number of joint replacement operations performed is rising continuously. This in turn has led to an increase in revision operations. As a result, revision arthroplasty of the knee joint is becoming increasingly important. This is reflected in the increasing number of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) revisions every year. It can be concluded from this that consideration must be given to the optimal components, both for the benefit of the patient and from an economic point of view (high costs per TKA). Today, there are various methods of implant fixation for knee prosthesis revisions. Initial short and medium-term results suggest that the use of metaphyseal components in revision arthroplasty can be a satisfactory method. Metaphyseal sleeves in addition to stem anchoring have proven particularly effective in the management of bone defects. The use of metaphyseal sleeves distributes the biomechanical forces in the proximal part of the tibia and in the distal femur. The objectives of the present study are therefore to investigate and analyze the medium-term results of TKA revisions using metaphyseal sleeve anchorage.
