Abstract:: Pectus carinatum is a rare malformation of the chest that is associated with a macroscopically recognizable protrusion of the sternum. However, the exact cause is still unknown. The visual appearance of pectus carinatum often leads to psychological distress and low self-confidence in affected patients. In addition to surgical correction, the treatment of choice is conservative treatment with a dynamic compression bracing system. The recommended age for starting the dynamic compression bracing treatment is not clearly defined in the literature. The aim of this diploma thesis is to compare data and recommendations from studies through a literature review in order to determine the optimal time of start of treatment.
