Abstract:
Background and Objective: In clinical studies on chronic heart failure, inhibitors of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2i) have shown improved prognosis compared to placebo. The EMMY study confirmed this relationship after an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and demonstrated a significant reduction in N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) with empagliflozin. The aim of this thesis is to expand the evidence on the involvement of the right ventricle and systolic and diastolic myocardial dysfunction. Materials and Methods: Echocardiography loops of a group of patients after acute myocardial infarction (n = 219), who received either standard treatment and placebo or standard treatment and empagliflozin as part of the EMMY study, were triple blind evaluated at three time points (week 0, 6, and 26) regarding right ventricular dimensions and performance. The obtained values were statistically compared both over time and between the groups.
