- Pain therapy – literature review and summary
Background
Pain management is an ubiquitous topic and challenge in almost all fields of medicine. The adequate handling of different kinds of pain has great impact on the well being of patients. Modern medicine offers a multitude of therapeutic options, simultainiously targeting biological, psychological and social factors. A highly individual approach in the context of multimodal pain therapy in specialized institutions is becoming the new state of art.
Methods
The aim of this thesis is to give an overview of therapeutic options and review modern approaches to pain management. Therefore a systematic literature search on different platforms and databases like PubMed has been conducted. Emphasis was placed on high impact studies or consenus statements of expert societies.
Conclusion
Adequate pain managment still poses a challenge for physicians. Modern therapies and multimodal concepts offer individually shaped treatments. Knowledge and correct application is of vital importance for clinicians, especially when dealing with complex pain syndromes. The different modalitities should be coordinated and in accordance to the patient’s needs.
