- Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is very rare tumor, and in Austria occurring with around 110 new cases per year. Recently there have been many studies dealing with importance of histology for prognosis, and in this for therapy decision. We want to see how many patients with MPM have been diagnosed at the Diagnostic and Research Institute of Pathology in the last 30 years, and to see in which histologic types and subtypes do they fit in. Furthermore, we will correlate this, and nuclear grade with the clinical characteristics when available. Tumor specimens and clinical data involve both men and women, so the outcome of this thesis will be relevant for both genders.
