- Abstract:
- This paper is supposed to be an overview of European Quality Indicators for advanced ovarian cancer. The aim of this study was to find our if the Gynecologic Department of the Klinikum Klagenfurt fulfills the European Quality Indicators and identify the areas where quality of surgical treatment or documenting could be improved.
The ten quality indicators were chosen as most important indicators nominated by international experts. They were created to improve the quality of surgery for advanced ovarian cancer and to improve standardized proper ovarian cancer care.
Organization of investigation started with research on the topic and getting together the most important documents. A summary of Anatomy and Pathology is given. The theses of Pathogeneses seemed to gain importance since a difference in development of the different histologic types would cause a different therapy. History of surgery, especially gynecologic surgery, should give an impression on its evolution. After this introduction work, all ten European quality indicators for advanced ovarian cancer surgery were presented, a summary of their development and a description of each one of the indicators was made.
Papers and studies, which describe how important the fulfillment of given standards is, were summarized. These studies and papers are the prove for existence of these quality indicators. Further it should be important to improve therapy through the acknowledgements made.
These procedures were the pre-work for analyzing the patients of the Klinikum Klagenfurt and prove in how well they achieve the main criteria.
The results are limited due to not standardized record keeping. After analyzing patient’s data under the perspective of the Quality Indicators, the achievement of these QI cannot be confirmed because of missing data. Because of the lack of standardized operation reports, and therapy procedures it is hardly possible to make a concrete statement retrospectively.
The introduction of standardized data is planned as well as a prospective study is planned for 2017.
