- Abstract:
- The stress urinary incontinence is a common problem that may lead to sexual dysfunction. With an increasing life expectance of women in the developed world the number of women suffering from stress urinary incontinence is growing rapidly. The tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) method for the treatment of the incontinence is in use since mid 1990s. The influence of the TVT operation on sexuality has been studied until now insufficiently.
The aim of this investigation is to analyze the quality of the sexual life of 53 wife¿s 10 years after the TVT treatment. For this purpose a ¿FSFI-d¿ questionnaire have been used.
The results show that a large proportion of women (average age of women = 65.8 years) had no sexual activity (28.3% -55.3%). The observed high level of sexual inactivity is probably caused by old age of women. 10-25% of women were almost always satisfied with all aspects of sexual life (16% with arousal, 12.8% with orgasm, 12.8% with emotional closeness, 13.9% generally with sexual relationship and 25% with the quality of sexual life). On the other hand there was the greatest dissatisfaction of women with sexual arousal - 1 / 3 of all women (30%) are very dissatisfied. The lowest was the dissatisfaction of women in emotional closeness - 4.2%.
The used questionnaire can give a good overview of various aspects of sexuality (desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain) of a particular woman grouping. This questionnaire is well suited for monitoring and comparison of tasks in the field of medical activities of specialists (comparing the conditions before and after the medical treatment).
