Abstract:
In cells, excess free cholesterol and triglycerides are stored as cytosolic lipid droplets (LD). LD are dynamic organelles with important functions in the maintainence of cellular lipid homeostasis, energy storage and the production of signalling molecules. The individual function of LD depends on the cell type. LD biosynthesis, remodelling and degradation are restricted and controlled by LD-associated proteins. These proteins interact with important cellular enzymes, which in turn directly influence cellular lipid homeostasts. LD associated proteins have already been extensively studied in adipocytes however, their role in macrophages is yet controversial. Therefore the aim of the current work is to clarify the role of LD-associated proteins in macrophges in more detail.
