- Abstract:
- The doctoral dissertation is a retrospective study about hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, their management and maternal and fetal outcome at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Landeskrankenhaus Graz in the years 1992 to 2006. Maternal data evaluated were: Age, Parity, Gravidity, Gestational Age at time of first visit and of delivery; Preexistent diseases as antecedent miscarriages, Diabetes mellitus, Immunological disorders, Renal dysfunctions, Antiphospholipid Syndrome, Adipositas and nicotine abusus. Furthermore the results of the examination at the Obstetrical and Gynecological Department of the University hospital Graz were analysed: Blood pressure values, Proteine measurements in urine, Laboratory results (Liver enzymes, Uric acid, Platelets, Albumin and Hematocrit) and symptoms typical for the different forms of hypertensive disorders (Edema, Cephalea, Right Upper Quadrant Pain, Hemorrhages, Vomiting, Visual Distrubances and Seizures). These data were used to make a strict classification of the different manifestations of hypertensive disorders and it was examined if there were any factors which could point out to a higher risk of developing a hypertensive disease in pregnancy. Concerning the delivery, the gestational age at time of delivery, the mode of delivery and the complications have been evaluated. Another point of interest was the fetal outcome: Wight, Length and Circumference of the Head as well as the APGAR-scores after one, five and then minutes and the pH of arterial and venous blood of the umbilical cord vessels were reviewed to see if the newborns of women with hypertensive disorders had deficits compare to babies of healthy mothers. The medication and their changes in the years 1992 to 2006 were another big part of this study. Besides the antihypertensive drugs the prescription rate of Magnesium/Magnesium sulfate, of Benzodiazepines both drugs used for prevention and treatment of eclampsia and Acetylsalicylic Acid were evaluated.
