- Abstract:
- .An angiosarcoma arising after kidney transplant with subsequent immunosuppression is a rare occurrence. An epitheloid angiosarcoma developed in a defunctionalized arteriovenous fistula in a 60-year-old patient 9 years after a kidney transplant and 7 years after arteriovenous fistula ligation. In spite of aggressive surgical therapy remote metastases grew rapidly. If, as experimental studies postulate, a turbulent flow leads to an endothelial proliferation by means of up-regulation of growth peptides and, thus, the development of malignant tumors is favored, defunctionalized arteriovenous fistulas should be surgically removed in patients receiving immunosuppression.
