- Abstract:
- In Type I and Type II diabetics hemoglobin A1c, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and the apolipoproteins A I and B were determined and compared with a control group. In diabetics the HbA1c values were significantly higher, but were found to fluctuate considerably during several years of observation. Some parameters of lipid metabolism also differed significantly from those in the control group and in most of the diabetics one or more parameters of lipid metabolisms were in the pathologic range. However, no correlation was found between the parameters of blood glucose and lipid metabolism on the one hand and diabetic retinopathy on the other.
