- Abstract:
- 245 women who underwent surgery for stress urinary incontinence between 1982 and 1989 were tested urodynamically before and after surgery. 129 women had a normotonic 116 patients a hypotonic urethra (maximal urethral closure pressure at rest <20 cm H2O. 116 women underwent colpoperineoplasty, 59 a Burch colposuspension and 70 patients a Stamey endoscopic suspension of the bladder neck. In patients with a normotonic urethra there were no significant differences between the 3 procedures (Burch 79 % vs colpoperineoplasty 57 % vs Stamey 71 %). In patients with a hypotonic urethra the Burch procedure was successful significantly more often than the other two operations (88 % vs 62 % and 47 %). Colpoperineoplasty and the Stamey procedure both significantly decreased the urethral closure (UCP) at rest. Urodynamic criteria of the urethral stress profiles were significantly improved by all operative procedures.
