- A 19-year-old female student nurse developed a few hours after each visit to a dentist a generalized maculo-urticarial flare, that subsided spontaneously within a few days of each visit. These problems had started at the age of twelve. The allergy investigation revealed a massive sensitization to mercury salts and amalgam in the patch test whereas testing with local anaesthetics proved negative. The mouth cavity was, despite several fillings with dental amalgam, free from any clinical changes. Removal of the fillings was wt necessary; other cases of amalgam allergy might well behave differently
