- Abstract:
- Despite continuous improvement of techniques for the evaluation of the allergenic potential of a substance before it is introduced to the market, despite strict legislative regulations where and how to use dangerous substances and despite refined surveillance methods, the number of literature reports on newly observed contact allergens is still high. New allergens and new areas of employment demand the continuous search for possibilities of exposure. In this paper, reports from the allergological literature of the past 3 years are summarized. "New" allergens, but also new applications, new terms, altered behavioral patterns, occupational allergens, changes in the standard series, changed marketing methods as well as altered indications for patch testing will be mentioned. This article shall document that the search for trigger factors of contact allergy necessitates continuous education regarding the relevant literature, a fair amount of scientific curiosity and a dedicated patch test clinic.
