Abstract:
This article highlights the topic of feeding and eating behaviour disorders in infancy. Severely disturbing eating patterns and food avoidance are growing and common reasons for referral. Mothers and other primary caregivers often suffer from an escalating spiral of the infant's poor weight gain and growth parameters, pressure for more oral intake and the child's clear signs of refusal. We present some current methods of diagnostic subclassification and consecutive therapeutic interventions and offer some new approaches to support and enhance active eating and drinking and increase food preference with infants and toddlers.
