Abstract:
Problem: The present study analyses the health promotion programme "Kilos bewegen" (Moving Kilos) of the Styrian Regional Health Insurance Agency in terms of success and impact on health status, health behaviour, and satisfaction. Methods: Constitution parameters and biochemical data of the participants in the Obesity Programme 2003 and 2004 were surveyed using laboratory tests and measuring body fat before and after the project. The results were analysed by means of t-tests for dependent samples. The answers given in the questionnaire at the end of the programme are represented using frequency analyses. Results: The results obtained show that the obesity programme was successful in terms of fulfilment of the required success criteria. Remarkable improvements were found in all constitution parameters and in the biochemical laboratory values HDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL coefficient, blood sugar, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The satisfaction among project participants was generally very high and multiple gains were achieved. Reasons to participate included health and a better figure, while the motivation to participate was mostly self-initiative. \ Conclusion: The results of this study underline the importance of interdisciplinary co-operation between medicine, psychology, dietetics, and sports science in obesity therapy and should be used for further optimisation of treatment concepts in terms of better quality assurance.
