- Abstract:
- Two years ago the first statements were published by the Austrian Alzheimer Society. These consensus statements include an update of the recommendations for the diagnosis and therapy of dementing disorders based on scientific evidence and expert opinion. Intended readership consists of neurologists, psychiatrists, general pracitioners and all other health care professionals involved in care of demented patients. Diagnostics methods for screening and differential diagnosis of dementia syndromes were classified as obligatory and optional. Therapeutic interventions were divided into pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures and were evaluated separately. Assessment of pharmacotherapy considers both etiology and severity of dementia. The primary objective of this consensus statements is further improvement of care for demented patients in Austria on the basis of scientific evidence.
