- Abstract:
- Sensitization against ingredients of vaccines is quire common, but allergic reactions after vaccination at the application site are rare and systemic anaphylaxis is an extremely uncommon event. Whereas the vaccine antigen itself can hardly ever be identified as the relevant allergen, culture media, substances from the production process or used for inactivation, preservatives and stabilizers, as well as adsorbents may act as antigens. But such sensitizations usually do not represent a contraindication for a booster injection, only clinically relevant specific sensitization against egg proteins excludes vaccination against influenza and yellow fever. Appropriate diagnostic procedures should thus be performed after each vaccination-associated reaction in order to correctly estimate the likelihood of a future reaction after the next injection.
