- It has been known since decades that many analytes of interest for the clinical chemist follow persisting internal oscillations of varying rhythms. The present paper demonstrates how such biorhythms can be treated in a first phenomenologic analysis using the tools of mathematics and statistics. Without considering in detail the mechanisms underlying such rhythms, the extraction of characteristic parameters of the oscillations by means of the so-called ''Cosinor'' model and their judgement by special statistical tests is demonstrated. The necessary computations are done using a computer spreadsheet program.
