- A large number of interactive factors operative in waste management prevents an estimate of the risk potential of airborne microorganisms based on the determination of the number of viable colony-forming units. However, when pertinent industrial safety recommendations are followed and proven protective measures are implemented, microbiological testing of the work environment may be dispensed with. Nevertheless, values and limits for immissions are significant as individuals exposed may have previous damages or serious illnesses. The present study provides recommendations for measuring strategies for the evaluation of plant-related immissions.
