- Abstract:
- Background: The increasing complexity of pediatrics with rising workloads as well as the striving for better working conditions and optimized work-life balance, prompted the young pediatric societies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to form a network. Under the leadership of the German Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ), the alliance "Gemeinsam stark" (Strong together) was founded in order to bundle resources and to work on common topics together. Methods: In this article coordinated by the Young DGKJ and the Young Austrian Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (oGKJ), nine junior pediatric subspecialty organizations use two case histories to describe what the networked care looks like today and how it might run in 10 years. Results: The fictitious medical history of Theo describes how networked care today largely involves many hurdles. In addition to the lack of digitalization and uniform national and European standards in training, diagnostics and treatment, there is a lack of financing concepts and legal uncertainties. In a vision of the future, Theo's sister Mia, who is 10 years younger, faces a much better network of care, working, training and research conditions in pediatrics. Conclusion: Apart from the necessary further developments in personalized and digitalized medicine, national and European networks in pediatrics are indispensable. Based on the case histories described, the pediatric junior societies would like to demonstrate the importance of improving training and working conditions.
