- Abstract:
- (Atopic) eczema and psoriasis are com-mon inflammatory skin diseases. In occu- pational dermatology, psoriasis manuum is an important differential diagnosis to hand eczema. In many cases, these diagnoses can be differentiated by anamnestic, clini-cal and histological clarification. However, these diseases can be very similar morpho-logically and histologically, which can make differentiation difficult in individual cases. In these cases, a newly developed molecular diagnostic tool can facilitate the diagnosis. The expression of two genes is determined in biopsy material of lesional skin, put in re-lation to each other and the probability of the presence of eczema or psoriasis is cal-culated from this. Experiences with this new diagnostic tool are described on the basis of an Austrian case series.
