- In a two-level system the refocusing and inverting effects of an RF pulse can be expressed in terms of transition probability p and 2p - 1, respectively. An analytical expression of p as a function of RF amplitude and resonance offset is derived for the composite pulse of the form (theta)(0)(theta')(psi)(theta)(0), where theta and theta' are two flip angles and it is the phase difference between the second and the other pulses. The resulting formalism is used to assess the compensation for B-0 and B-1 inhomogeneities. A new set of pulse parameters that provides effective dual compensation is proposed.
