Abstract:
Central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) is characterized by a symmetrical, primarily noninflammatory demyelinization of the brainstem. According to the latest concepts this disease could have a variety of causes. One well known trigger is alcohol abuse. Typical histological signs and findings of a fatal CPM are demonstrated using the example of a deceased 37-year-old male with a long history of severe alcohol abuse.
