- Abstract:
- The close association of visceral obesity and arterial hypertension is well established. Obesity is regarded as the primary causal agent in primary, i.e. idiopathic arterial hypertension. The accumulation of excessive visceral fat mass ultimately compresses the kidneys and lead to impaired sodium handling by the kidneys, an overshooting activation of the RAAS and the sympathetic nervous system and thus elevate arterial blood pressure. There is good data available that weight loss effectively reduces arterial hypertension.
