- Abstract:
- The philosophical concept of radical constructivism is a concept originating in the last century. When space and time were at stake in physics it became necessary to introduce a new concept of truth. Radical constructivism is convinced that we can only see and hear and smell what our senses perceive at any given occasion. We construct a world within ourselves, which is our world. There are not two worlds, which are the same. The construct one builds up in him- or herself defines the way one sees the world and performs. When a medical doctor and parents with their child interact the assumptions of reality must be different. The parent's assumption may be full of emotions. Concepts of health and illness may be different from a MD's perspective. The MD's perspective on the other side is supported by testimonials of universities and hospitals, which testify that the bearer is empowered and that his/her assumptions are the "right way to see and to handle the reality of illness". When parents don't follow the MD's recommendations they are judged by using the word non-compliance. Therefore, using constructivism as a background for reflexion is advocated.
