- This position paper provides a comprehensive orientation for dealing with and the care of children and adolescents with diabetes in schools, in order to compensate the existing deficits in information and to increase awareness for this problematic topic. The increasing number of schoolchildren with diabetes and the longer duration of time spent in schools and school-linked institutions necessitate an official statement by the Austrian Diabetes Society and the Austrian Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The aim is to guarantee a standardized nationwide care for children and adolescents with diabetes in all schools in Austria.
