- Abstract:
- Conservative treatment for idiopathic adolescent scoliosis consists of bracing and physiotherapy. While the effectiveness of brace treatment for preventing progression is evidence based, there are no relevant studies on physiotherapy. Manual medicine articles on scoliosis are rare, although the pathological appearance of this curvature of the spine suggests the occurrence of reversible functional disorders. In this article, a manual medicine treatment concept which emerged from clinical observation is presented. According to this therapeutic approach, the lower and upper poles of the spine and craniomandibular structures are the targets of treatment, and the curvatures are of secondary importance. The need for physiotherapy is critically discussed.
