- Abstract:
- In the era of high-tech medicine, medical history taking and physical examination are often neglected. The fact is, however, that even today, the patient's medical history and clinical findings enable a firm diagnosis to be made in 80% of cases. If necessary at all, further technical methods only serve to confirm the suspected diagnosis. Not infrequently, competent and comprehensive clinical evaluation and medical history taking render further expensive and/or time-consuming tests unnecessary. In particular, it has to be underscored that the subjective pretest probability obtained by medical history taking and physical examination is the mainstay for the interpretation of further test results.
