- Abstract:
- In chronic infections of the lungs Aspergillus and Pseudomonas infections are in the foreground; however, they affect nearly exclusively patients with relevant predisposing medical conditions or chronic underlying diseases. In the past both infections were underestimated and partly neglected, even though they are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Specific microbiological or serological tests as well as radiological and clinical factors have to be critically interpreted to make the correct diagnosis. Treatment recommendations are evidence-based and have been published in international guidelines; however, in practically all cases treatment is tedious, expensive and complex.
