Abstract:: The new US-Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults has been released in November 2017. In this comprehensive document, containing 15 chapters and more than 170 pages, the currently available evidence is summarized, and guiding for the most important clinical questions regarding hypertension is provided. The new guideline have been widely discussed in the lay media, with an almost exclusive focus on the new blood pressure targets (< 130/80 mmHg). This review paper will give an overview on important aspects of the new US guideline, highlighting the new blood pressure targets and their possible implications for Austria.
