- Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is one of the most frequent chronic metabolic diseases in childhood and adolescence. Pediatricians are confronted with different challenges in different age groups of patients. In the care of adolescents with T1D these challenges include deterioration of metabolic control during puberty, eating disorders, risk behavior, transfer to self-management and the transition.
