- Abstract:
- Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are suitable alternatives to the treatment with vitamin K antagonists (VKA) in atrial fibrillation patients and will replace these substances in this indication in wide parts. In atrial fibrillation patients with hemodialysis or with mechanical heart valves VKA still is the treatment of choice. In case of DOAC treatment concomitant disease (eg renal impairment, GI bleeding) and concomitant medication (eg amiodarone) should be checked to choose the right substance and the correct dosage.
