Abstract:
Haemoglobin interferes with the optical detection of various analytes in human blood. The aim of this study was the design and evaluation of a pre-treatment module which combines the instillation of undiluted whole human blood into a microchannel structure and the subsequent separation of erythrocytes. The microchannel structure on a cyclic olefin polymer (COP) based chip was manufactured by hot embossing or micro-milling. We were able to show that the used material does not adsorb haemoglobin or erythrocytes and that the generated plasma had 67.1% less haemoglobin than the whole blood sample.
