- Beyond the classical effect of aldosterone on sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron, the spectrum of aldosterone-induced effects on the kidney (and the cardiovascular system) continues to expand at a rapid pace. Blockade of this system has become an attractive target for intervention. Major contributions have been reported in the past 2-3 years. By necessity this brief summary addresses only some of the emerging issues of nephrological relevance. In this fast moving field, we try to give a concise discussion of papers with potential nephrological relevance in the past 2-3 years. © The Author 2013.
