Abstract:
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the level of emotional distress and anxiety before one of the routine follow-up visits. Study design: 210 patients with gynecological malignancies completed the Psychological Assessment Screening Scale and a survey questionnaire about their views of follow-up. Results: On the Psychological Assessment Screening Scale the majority of patients showed low levels of distress. The mean score on the physical condition scale was 4.7 (SD 2.7), on the sense of coherence scale 6.5 (SD 3.5), and on the emotional distress scale 7.7 (SD 3.9). The majority of patients (66%) reported low levels of anxiety and a high level of satisfaction with the follow-up regimen. Conclusions: Women undergoing routine follow-up after gynecological cancer treatment are satisfied with the current follow-up care. The psychological support patients receive due to regular clinic visits is highly valued. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
