- Abstract:
- IgE-mediated allergies cannot be cured by surgery. However, some ENT operations such as septoplasty, functional endoscopic sinus surgery or adenotomy can be helpful procedures adjuvant to a specific anti-allergic therapy. The aim of these operations is to improve the nasal airflow. As symptoms caused by allergy often are similar to the symptoms caused by chronic sinusitis, septal deviation of hypertrophic adenoid tissue, exact rhinological diagnosis by rhinoscopy, endoscopy and computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses should be performed in doubtful cases. The possibility of diagnosis and, if necessary, surgical therapy should lead to cooperation of allergologist, pediatrician and ENT-surgeon.
