Mission Statement
"Children are not small adults" -- this describes best the duties of Pediatric Radiology.
The Division of Pediatric Radiology is responsibel for all kind of imaging in Children with the only exception of Nuclear Medicine studies and specialized interventional procedures.
All examinations protocolls are tailored to children focusing on non-invasivness and radiation protection -- Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging are the preferred imaging modalities. In addition the enviroment is targeted to children with bright waiting areas, play grounds etc.
Moreover special investigations are done in cooperation with the other partner institutions of the pediatric center (Dep. of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Dep. of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery) - thus enabling a patient tailored interdisciplinary approach, as examples Videourodynamics or cardiac MRI/CT have to be mentioned.
The Division of Pediatric Radiology is the only academic institution in Austria focusing only on imaging in children. The connected Research Unit for Digital Information and Image Processing cooperates in the area of image improvement and enhancement as well as new imaging modalities are implemented (eg Electrical Impedance Tomography) or developed (eg Infrared based tracking of Respiration). One patent is pending.
Together with the Dep. of
