Fields of expertise
- Berthold Huppertz is cell biologist and specialist in human anatomy with a strong focus on the human placenta and the pregnancy pathologies preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Berthold was first to describe the apoptosis cascade in the placenta and has developed a new hypothesis on the etiology of preeclampsia. Morever, for seven years Berthold has been director of Europe's largest clinical biobank and thus has collected a profound knowledge in the field of biobanking. More than 240 publications with more than 22,700 citations, the edition of the first German speaking book on the human placenta (now also available in English) and the many awards in both fields, placenta and biobanking, show the standing of Berthold.
